About Whitefish River First Nation

Whitefish River First Nation, also known as the Ojibways of Whitefish River First Nation, is a vibrant Anishinaabe community located on Birch Island, Ontario. We are proud members of the United Chiefs & Councils of Mnidoo Mnising.

Our community is guided by the Seven Grandfather Teachings - Wisdom, Love, Bravery, Truth, Respect, Humility, and Honesty - combined with the teachings of the Medicine Wheel encompassing Spiritual, Emotional, Mental/Intellectual, and Physical conditions. This helps our citizens walk in balance.

We offer comprehensive services including Shawanosowe School (JK-Grade 6), Maamwe Kendaasing Childcare Centre, health services through Noojmowin Teg Community Health Centre, and various social programs. Our education department also provides busing services and post-secondary funding opportunities.

Our community highly values lifelong learning and cultural preservation, ensuring that future generations can continue to thrive while maintaining our strong Anishinaabe identity and traditional teachings.
